The Fischer Inception Job refers to a radical and risky operation undertaken by Dom Cobb and his team almost immediately after the failure of The Saito Extraction Job. The goal of the mission is to achieve Inception by planting idea to break up his father's empire into Robert Fischer's mind, a decision that would be beneficial to Saito's company, Proclus Global (which is a competitor of Fischer Morrow) and to the world at large as it would prevent the creation of another "superpower" due to the company's widespread control of energy resources. Dom Cobb is talked into leading the operation by Saito on the grounds that if he succeeds, Saito will "make a phone call" and ensure that the charges against him will be dropped and he will be able to return to his family. All team members will also recieve payment for their work; Cobb has promised his share to Yusuf in return for his not informing the other dreamers that they are in risk of falling into limbo. The planning, execution, and outcome of this job form the primary plot of the film Inception.

The Basic PlanEdit

In order to ensure that the idea is implanted "deep" enough in Robert Fischer's head, Dom and the team plan an unconventional three level dream or a "dream within a dream within a dream." The goal of these dreams is to bring the enormous business decision of breaking up the empire down to the simple, emotional level of Robert Fischer reconciling with his father. In the first level of the dream, Eames impersonates Fisher's godfather, Peter Browning, and mentions an alternative will to dissolve the company. "Browning" acts suspiciously; although he screams, he is never shown being tortured. Fischer therefore makes the assumption that "Browning" is working with the kidnappers, as indeed Eames is; that Browning didn't want Fischer Morrow dissolved by the alternate will and, by extention, that there is a reason he, Fischer, would, and that there is therefore something being held back from him; "Browning" mentions that his father loved Fischer, so Fischer makes the leap to guess that what "Browning" wants to hide is that his father wanted him to be his own man. The team also hold Fisher at gunpoint, forcing him to create a random digit of numbers (528491) to create a password for his subconscious' secrets.

They then progress onto the next level, the hotel. Dom pretends to be a projection, "Mr Charles", to win Fischer's trust, and points out that Eames, as blonde, has stolen Fischer's wallet. Dom draws Fischer's attention to the massive gravity shifts and the odd weather (a wall of water hits the window, corresponding to a raindrop hitting Arthur's body in the city) to point out that he is dreaming. This leads his projections to search for the dreamer. However, the gambit works as Dom manages to convince Fischer that he and his team are projections and that it is the true projections that are extractors. The killing of two projections who followed them leads Fischer to feel safe, causing the projections to act much less aggressively than in the city. Fischer's projection of Browning enters and acts based exactly how, from experience, Fischer expects him to: he tells him that he doesn't want the will released and that Fischer Morrow had been his whole life; given Eames' acting on the first level, the projection confesses to be working with the kidnappers to prevent the dissolution, exactly what Fischer thought about "Browning" on the first level. The team, with Fischer now as a team member, prepare to commit "extraction" on "Browning's" mind; however, as this is only his projection of Browning, the "secrets" are what Fischer assumed in level 1 that browning was hiding from him: that his father wanted him to be his own man. In the third level, Projection Browning hides his "secret", which would be Fischer's motive for dissolving Fischer Morrow, in the safe room; with the assistance of the team, Fischer enters the safe room, finds the "secret" and assumes it to be true, causing inception.
